Star Wars Day is upon the galaxy, and naturally, Lucasfilm and fans have put on an Ewok-style celebration. With so much of Star Wars’ future taking place on Disney+, it comes as little surprise that the streaming platform has been at the center of the holiday’s special reveals. When the twin suns rose, everyone was treated to the official trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, featuring a heated discussion between the Jedi and Uncle Owen, Reva on the prowl, and a Darth Vader suit-up.
Lucasfilm and Disney+ also announced a docuseries coming to the platform called Light & Magic. Directed by Star Wars alum Lawrence Kasdan, the six-part project promises to take a deep dive into the history of ILM, the visual effects company founded by George Lucas. While the series won’t reach Disney+ until late July, fans can expect their first look at what’s to come during a panel at Star Wars Celebration.
There are nearly a dozen currently announced Star Wars projects in the works for Disney+, with more sure to be on the way. The platform serves as the streaming home of the franchise’s past, present, and future, a place where fans can go to get lost in any part of the galaxy far, far away. As such, a new promotional video has dropped that boasts the wide array of Star Wars available to viewers.
Disney+ released a promotional video compiling footage from all of the Star Wars projects on the platform released to date, as well as a tease for the impending release of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
It wouldn’t be a celebration of Star Wars if Luke, Han, and Leia’s embrace in A New Hope wasn’t present:
Lucasfilm Animation’s body of work deserves to be represented as well, especially through the beloved The Clone Wars series:
To be a Jedi is to stay in the moment, and Mando and Grogu are the talk of the town now:

Diehard fans of Star Wars are well aware of the stories inhabiting the world, but the Disney+ promo puts into perspective how much the franchise has grown. For the longest time, all the franchise had was Lucas’ six saga films – which was a perfectly complete story. Over time, The Clone Wars began to expand Star Wars in several directions, some of which have been picked up on by live-action and other animated shows. Coupled with the new films, Star Wars has come to have a dozen times the amount of content it once did.
And there’s plenty more where that came from. While the theatrical future for the franchise remains uncertain, many new projects are set to launch on Disney+ over the next few years. The most pertinent is Obi-Wan Kenobi, the highly-anticipated series following the Jedi Master that comes later this month. Later in the year will also be Andor Season 1, The Mandalorian Season 3, and the animated The Bad Batch Season 2.
Coming at various points in the future are also Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Lucasfilm Animation’s Tales of the Jedi, as well as more seasons of Andor and an expanding MandoVerse. With Star Wars Celebration crashing Anaheim at the end of the month, fans can expect word on even more stories joining the streaming world. The Star Wars library seems big as is, but Disney+ is set to turn the franchise into a much larger world.
