HTC and LG Electronics could adopt sapphire home buttons in order to add fingerprint scanner in their next-gen flagship models, the HTC One 2 and G3.

August 2013 was the month that the fingerprint scanners made their advent to the mobile industry. We initially saw this feature on the LG G2 back and the iPhone 5S, albeit on the home button.

According to the folks over Digitimes, their sources suggest that the Sapphire will be one of the new trends of premium smartphones in 2014.

According to sources, HTC and LG have similar plans for their forthcoming handsets: The HTC One 2 and the LG G3. Both manufacturers reportedly will be implementing Sapphire home buttons in their next-gen flagship models to bundle fingerprint scanners. The Taiwanese corporation has already launched a phone featuring a Sapphire button, the One’s larger sibling HTC One Max, hence the particular scenario sounds plausible.

So far both companies haven’t confirmed anything, maybe things will start looking more clear when MWC 2014 is about to kick off.
