It appears Celtic defender Carl Starfelt is busy preparing for the new season after he posted a short clip of him doing some light work with a personal trainer on social media.
Starfelt picked up an injury on international duty with Sweden in early June, forcing him to leave the national team squad and miss subsequent Nations League encounters.
It sparked concern that it could negatively impact his pre-season with the Celtic squad in Austria and beyond, with no timeline or update given regarding his condition. Given it was a reported hamstring problem, which can force lengthy absences, there was every reason to worry.
However, he posted a video on his Instagram stories early today, working with MVP Akademi, a Swedish private training company that supports professionals as well as helps develop youth players.
He at least isn’t laid up and can go through rehabilitation and apparently light personal training work ahead of a return to Lennoxtown in a couple of weeks.
Ange Postecoglou will be delighted. Getting through the summer without injury or setbacks is a key goal. A full pre-season of hard work will be needed for all of these players ahead of a heavy schedule over the coming months.
Celtic take part in Scottish Premiership, League Cup and Champions League football on a mid-week to weekend basis from the end of July right through to November, aside from an international break in September.
Many of the squad are due back to the training centre in the week beginning 27th June, with international talents given a few days of extra rest.
The group then flies off to the Austrian training camp and initial pre-season friendlies on 6th and 9th July against as-yet unannounced opponents.
It’s great to see Starfelt on the mend and hopefully there are no complications on his way back to match action.
In other news, Alexandro Bernabei returns to Lanus match squad after 3-game absence as Celtic speculation continues.
