At UNPACKED event in Barcelona, Samsung officially unveiled the long-awaited Galaxy S5. The phone is, atheistically, similar to its predecessor from top to bottom, even though the water-resistant S5 packs an improved camera, advanced connectivity options, and new software features.

J.K. Shin, Samsung’s head of information technology and the mobile communications division explained the design of new Galaxy S5 taking into account the customers’ interest, citing: “Our consumers do not want eye-popping technology or the most complex technology.”

“Our consumers want durable design and performance. Our consumers want a simple, yet powerful camera.” Said the CEO.

The Galaxy S5 is big phone, even larger than the Galaxy S4. The screen measures 4.99 inches, diagonally, with a 5.1-inch FullHD Super AMOLED display. The body features a modern design with a punched rear bodywork, which gives the phone a glam look. The exterior comes in four colors: charcoal black, shimmery white, electric blue and copper gold, measuring 142.0 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm and weighing 145 grams.

The fifth-gen of Galaxy S range is IP67 certified, which means that it’s waterproof and dust-resistant phone. Therefore, customers can use the phone, even in the rain at no risk for maximum of 30 minutes or up to 1m deep in water. Like the iPhone 5S, it also features a fingerprint reader on the home button that lets you unlock the phone with one swipe, and pay your bill quickly in all safe manner.

Samsung has improved the main camera, equipping a 16-megapixel sensor with “the world’s fastest” autofocus” mode and advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR), in an attempt to stand in today’s cut throat competition of the cameraphones.

The camera allows you to capture a great color intensity under any circumstances. There’s also a new feature that create an effect of depth of field (DOF) and let you focus on only the prime subject while blurring the background.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with support for the fifth-gen Wi-Fi connectivity, 2 x 2 MIMO, and 4G LTE in addition to NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Moreover, Download Booster is yet innovative technology, which allows you to increase the speed of data downloading over Wi-Fi and 4G at the same time, ensuring a faster connection in every situation.

The rest of specs include a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5 GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16/32 GB of internal memory expandable via microSD, and 2800 mAh battery. The phone also packs a wide array of sensors including accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, proximity sensor, ambient light and barometer.

In the software section, there’s an exclusive Health 3.0 app for health conscious customers, which offers a set of tools for those who wish to stay in shape. In addition to the personal assistant for physical activities, there’s also be a pedometer for a balanced diet and workout, and a heart rate sensor integrated in order to monitor heartbeats. And the Galaxy S5 is accompanied by the Gear 2 smartwatch and the Gear Fit, perfectly.

As expected, the Samsung Galaxy S5 feature new interface with big flat icons on the top of Android 4.4 KitKat. It will be available in stores starting April 11 in more than 150 countries. The retail price hasn’t been disclosed yet.
