AT&T has released its Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for One M8 devices, with Android L not too far behind.
AT&T has now made its Android 4.4.3 KitKat update for the HTC One M8 available. HTC Product Manager Leigh Momii made the announcement yesterday morning with the words, “#HTCOneM8 owners on AT&T can start grabbing their 4.4.3 update today! #HTCAdvantage.”
The 4.4.3 update doesn’t bring much difference to the HTC One M8 software experience, but the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update includes some camera, settings, gallery, and Sync Manager improvements, Quick Setting, Motion Launch, Extreme Power Saving Mode, and BoomSound optimizations, not to mention Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and mobile network improvements alongside of security fixes.
AT&T is one of the last national carriers in the US to receive the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update, seeing that Sprint and T-Mobile have already released an update to their One M8 devices. HTC One M8 off-contract devices received the incremental KitKat update first, typical for update releases.
Verizon is the only major US carrier that’s yet to release an update, but this comes as little surprise. Verizon is known for getting their releases right when new updates are sent to their compatible devices, so a little extra time can’t hurt in this regard.

Seeing that Android L, likely to be Lemon Meringue Pie, is set to arrive this Fall on Nexus and Google Play devices, we wonder why it is the case that HTC didn’t update the One M8 to Android 4.4.4 KitKat that provides the latest security patches to Android loopholes. At the same time, however, HTC has decided to release its Android L update within 90 days of receiving it from Google – so One M8 users won’t miss much in Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
