The Lumia Denim firmware will come with a myriad of advantages for customers with Lumia devices when it is rolled out during Q4 of 2014.
With the announcement of Lumia 730/735 and Lumia 830, Microsoft also announced the Lumia Denim firmware for Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 8.1 during the IFA 2014 on Thursday. This means that most of the Lumia mobile devices released henceforth would enjoy the many advantages offered by the Lumia Denim update.
The Lumia Denim update, following the recent Lumia Cyan update, signifies that Lumia phones will come with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 features like Live Folders, Cortana, Microsoft Office, Apps Corner and reminders.
The Denim firmware update also offers efficient photography possibilities through the Lumia Camera app. By offering speedy camera startup and amazing capture speeds of up to one burst shot in 42 milliseconds, the camera app is commendably faster than the former Nokia camera-branded equivalent. The speed of Nokia’s PureView camera is complemented with the Rich Capture feature—an app that simplifies intuitive picture-taking and capturing high quality images in low light.
In addition to a Dynamic Flash and Auto HDR, the firmware update includes 4K videos recording at a remarkable 24 FPS. Individual frames of the video are taken at 8.3 megapixels, hence ensuring quality recording of videos.
Another noteworthy feature of the Lumia Denim update is the “Hey Cortana” voice activation, which brings Nokia at par with developers already enjoying the feature, including Google Now and Siri. Now, users will be able to activate the phone when it is idle by simply saying, “Hey Cortana”.
However, as a catch, some features of the Lumia Denim update are hardware-dependent and may, therefore, not be available to some lower-end Lumia devices. Some of the handsets that will enjoy all the features of the update include the Lumia 830, Lumia 930/Icon, and Lumia 1520.
Going by the amazing features brought by the Lumia Denim firmware, it is undoubtable that the Nokia Lumia devices will present a tough challenge for companies like Samsung and Apple that are also expected to launch their flagship devices in the coming months. It will be interesting to see how these competing companies respond to the greatly advantageous features of the Lumia Denim update.
Microsoft has plans to roll out the update globally by the end of this year. “All handsets will be updated to Lumia Denim by Christmas.” Said Microsoft’s James Guion to press in London.
