Apple received a very nice confidence boost as news in China surfaced that the new iPhone 6, and 6 Plus may finally be nearing release within China.
Apple has been awaiting approval from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. And today, an individual within the ministry said that the review, and approval will be met “very soon.”
The lack of Chinese sales didn’t hurt Apple in their opening weekend, selling more than 10 million units without one of the largest markets in the world. China regularly accounts for 15-20% of all iPhone sales globally.
However, it would seem that a lot of the challenge, or wait, in the Chinese market stems around the process of switching from 3G to 4G networking. Obviously, 4G is something that is important to Apple, and their iPhone brand, so this is a transition that means a lot to the company.
But, that’s not to diminish the importance of approval from Chinese regulators. The truth is that the company definitely needs a good relationship with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology if they want China to continue accounting for 15-20% of global iPhone sales.
And despite the issues that have been associated with new iPhone 6, and 6 Plus models – especially the bending, and crashing that has been at the center of recent chatter around the internet – iPhones are projected to do phenomenally in the country.
Another note of interest is the fact that a Morgan Stanley report found that larger screened phones were in massive demand in China. The report showed that 51% of current iPhone users in China would want to upgrade if a larger option was available.
The success and demand in the United States have created an atmosphere of euphoria in China. Even a black market that has been booming since the iPhone’s release in China is bulking up the demand for the iPhone 6, and 6 Plus inside the country that has yet to release the device.
But, it looks like that time is coming to an end. It looks like China is finally coming close to approving the device, and for iPhone fans in China – that is a long awaited word that they’ve been waiting to get now as the rest of the world gets to enjoy Apple’s latest device.
