At I/O 2014 in June, Google unveiled Android 5.0 Lollipop and made available a Developer Preview of the OS to developers and manufacturers immediately. It allowed OEMs to become familiar with changes ahead of its official launch so as to push the update to devices soon.
Sony has announced on Thursday that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available for all Xperia Z smartphones and tablets, starting with the latest ones: the Z3 and the Z2 “at beginning of 2015,” followed by other siblings.
According to the official blog post, the Android “L” upgrade will be available for the following devices: Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
In addition, the Xperia Z Ultra Google Play edition devices will be first to receive the update – we’ll be back with more details on that soon.
The Japanese manufacturer has not published any detailed schedule or changelog of the release yet. Therefore, Sony fans will have to wait until more precise information come to light.
