The Oppo R5 will be the thinnest smartphone in the world and will measure at just 4.85mm in thickness.
The Oppo R5 has become the thinnest smartphone in the world, measuring in at just 4.85mm. This though is not Oppo’s first attempt in the mobile phone market. The Oppo R3, which was the previous Oppo released smartphone, measured in at 6.3mm in size.
How does a smartphone branded “the world’s thinnest” measure up though against the competition? Well, the Oppo R5 will actually bring an impressive host of features and specifications that should impress most smartphone users. We’re not talking about Droid-Turbo-sized specifications, but quality specifications none the less.
The phone will be built within an aluminum frame that is a 3D-welded alloy. The device weighs 155g and will bring a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen with 1080p resolution. The R5 will run Android 4.4, and it’ll have a Snapdragon 615 chipset powering the smartphone. A 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM, which will cumulatively mean being a solid mid-range Android device. The company did also create a unique system to ensure that the smartphone would keep its mid-ranged chipset cool.
This technology will ensure that the device stays at peak performance at all times, and that is something that any smartphone user can appreciate. Perhaps though the most impressive aspect of this device is what it offers out of its cameras.
The rear-facing camera boasts a 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor, which will make it one of the most adept cameras on any smartphone, and a front-facing camera is nothing to shake a stick at either. In fact, the front-facing camera might be the most impressive feature on the entire phone. It will feature a 5MP shooter, perfect for the growing “selfie” landscape.
Physically, the rear-facing camera does stick out a little bit, and that’s something that critics have said this could be a problem. However, even though the camera on the device sticks out slightly from the frame of the phone, it still is an impressive shooter. It will record 2160p video at 30fps. In addition, it will shoot 1080p at 60fps and even a slow-motion mode at 720p.
There is no launch date known yet, but the Oppo R5 will sell for $499. However, the device doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack. Interestingly enough, that seems to be the biggest point of contention with the device.
