LG surprises with Android 12 update containing June 2022 security patch for LG Wing – Notebookcheck.net

LG has started rolling out Android 12 to the Wing, one of its final smartphones. Equipped with a Snapdragon 765G and two displays, the LG Wing arrived with Android 10. While the LG Wing arrived in October 2020, it took until November 2021 for LG to update any Wing handsets to Android 11. Hence, it seemed unlikely that the Wing would see Android 12 before Google released Android 13.
Thankfully this is not the case, although only for the South Korean market for the time being. However, it only took Verizon until mid-December 2021 to finalise the Android 11 update for the Wing, so we may be 6 weeks away from Android 12 debuting on the Wing in the US. Unfortunately, LG has not confirmed when the Android 12 update will debut on unlocked handsets in other regions, such as Europe. Regardless, Android 12 arrives as F100N30b, approximately a 1.5 GB download. Incidentally, F100N30b contains the June 2022 set of Android security patches.
As the screenshot below shows, LG’s changelog contains various changes, including adding a green icon at the top of the display when the camera or microphone is active. In saying that, LG also allows Google apps to be themed based on your wallpaper’s colour. Additionally, LG has fixed the second screen controls layout for YouTube videos. For reference, a previous update prevented the YouTube app from showing a blurred video thumbnail as the second display’s background. It seems that LG has reworked system animations too, albeit subtly.
Android 12 is not the final stop for the LG Wing, either. As we discussed last year, LG has committed to delivering Android 13 to the device, as well as to the Velvet. It remains to be seen when LG will bring Android 13 to either smartphone, but it is encouraging to see LG bring Android 12 to the Wing just seven months after its last major OS update. Still, it would be surprising if LG delivered Android 13 for the Wing before 2023.
