Late Apple Leak Pours Cold Water On iPhone 14 Price Rises – Forbes

Multiple leaks claim Apple’s new iPhone 14 range is getting more expensive, and fans are braced for significant price increases on iPhone 14 Pro models. But what if they are wrong?
In a wide-ranging new blog post, citing sources with final iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro production devices, leaker yeux1122 claims “prices may be in a completely different direction than expected.” Shocking as this may seem at this late stage, yeux1122 has a history of going against the tide and being right.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max concept showing the expected higher $1199 price
While yeux1122 doesn’t expand on this, “a completely different direction than expected” indicates prices are going down, not up. And there is evidence to support this.
Pricing for last year’s iPhone 13 started at $799, and the iPhone 14 will use the same chassis, rear cameras, display and chipset. Yes, global inflation is running high, but phone parts tend to drop like a stone once they are no longer cutting edge. This is why Apple can discount older iPhones while retaining profit margins.
So it is not unreasonable for Apple to price the iPhone 14 at $699, pegging the range to the same entry-point as the iPhone 13 Mini. Above this, a $799 iPhone 14 Max would sell like hotcakes, and Apple would successfully widen the gap between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro to $300. This aligns with the company’s attempts to increase differentiation between Pro and non-Pro models.

Is this news unlikely so late in the calendar? In defence, yeux1122 has form. In March, the leaker countered claims that the iPhone 14 would have slimmer bezels than the iPhone 13. One week later, leaked schematics showed this and changed the narrative.
The same month, yeux1122 raised eyebrows by reporting that Apple would fit its MacBook and iPad Pro-focused M1 chip in the iPad Air. Many scoffed, but Apple duly did, stunning industry observers. As such, this leak should be treated with cautious optimism.
The rest of the leaker’s blog post is less controversial. Yeux1122 reports iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro color options that match leaks last week, increased A16 performance that ties in with recent chip analysis, and 30W faster charging — again in sync with the latest leaks.
So are Apple fans about to get a pleasant surprise when iPhone 14 prices are officially announced? With living costs rising sharply, maybe, just maybe, Apple has decided to motivate potential buyers in the best way possible.
