2024 Subaru Crosstrek Preview – J.D. Power

The Crosstrek isn’t Subaru’s best-selling model, but it’s an important nameplate for the Japanese automaker. It’s entering its third generation in 2024, and Subaru has released early specs and images for the model. It’s worth noting that the information shared relates to the Japanese-market Crosstrek, so details may change when it reaches North America.

Industry observers don’t expect Subaru to issue a drastic powertrain update for the Crosstrek, so we’ll likely continue to see the standard 2.0-liter flat-4 “boxer” engine making 152 horsepower or the 2.5-liter flat-4 with 182 hp. Subaru has not shared details on new hybrid or plug-in hybrid variants. That said, the Japanese model gets a hybrid system that uses a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and an electric motor.
The 2024 Crosstrek gets improvements under the skin, including a new inner frame structure that Subaru says is more rigid. The automaker will assemble the body structure differently in the all-new model to further stiffen the chassis, which works with a retuned suspension system to provide what Subaru claims is a smoother, quieter ride.

Styling updates are similarly subtle, so while Subaru refreshed the Crosstrek’s exterior and interior, it’s still easily recognizable. The front end is more refined and less aggressive than the outgoing model, and Subaru installed more black plastics around the outside of the body. Higher trim levels get upgraded 18-inch wheels. The Crosstrek brings new seats that Subaru says feature better support and a structure designed to reduce vibration and shaking. The vehicle gets more sound insulation, which the automaker claims will further bolster comfort.

Subaru pushed its larger 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen into the 2024 Crosstrek. It offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and can display multiple functions simultaneously. The Crosstrek gets an old-school physical gauge cluster instead of a configurable digital unit, and Subaru trimmed some physical buttons in favor of touch controls on the larger display.
