Android News / September Security Update Rolling Out To Galaxy S22 Series
The September 2022 Android security patch is rolling out to Samsung‘s Galaxy S22 series. The company has begun the rollout in Europe for all three models. The latest security update for the latest Samsung flagships should soon be available in other markets, including the US.
The European Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ units are receiving the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) with firmware version S90*BXXS2AVHD, SamMobile reports. That for the Galaxy S22 Ultra is S908BXXU2AVI3. There are no user-facing changes or new features here, though you may be getting some system stability improvements and bug fixes. Samsung recently rolled out the One UI 4.1.1 feature update to the phones. It is also testing the Android 13-based One UI 5.0, which is expected to arrive next month. So there’s plenty to look forward to as far as new features for the Galaxy S22 series are concerned.
For the time being, be content with the latest vulnerability fixes. Samsung says the September SMR patches over 50 privacy and security flaws in Galaxy devices. Some of those flaws reside in Google’s version of Android and were patched by the Search giant. Google labeled most of the issues as high-severity vulnerabilities affecting Android products from every brand. But the September SMR also contains patches for 29 Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities. These issues aren’t present in Android products from other brands. Samsung mentioned issues in Photo Editor, Video Editor, System UI, and other device components.
These security fixes are now rolling out to Galaxy S22 users in Europe. The update will be seeded in batches over the air (OTA) and may take a day or two to reach all eligible units in the region. You’ll be notified about it once available on your phone. Users in other regions can also look forward to the latest security update. As always, you can check for updates from the Settings app.
Samsung began beta testing One Ui 5.0 for the Galaxy S22 series in July. It has already released two beta updates and gearing up to release the third build next week. The company also recently opened up the beta program for the Galaxy S21 series. Rumors are that the stable One UI 5.0 will roll out in mid-October. It will begin with the Galaxy S22 trio and will gradually cover more models. We will keep you posted.
