We have some really interesting stats for Android smartphone users all over the world. The number of Android smartphone users using Jelly Bean have surpassed the number of Android users who are on Ice Cream Sandwich. However, even now it is the Android Gingerbread that still rules overall!
So if you ever thought that you are still stuck with the old Android Gingerbread operating system and felt bad about it, then here is something to actually cheer you up – Android Gingerbread is still the most popular version of Android operating system all over the world, and neither Ice Cream Sandwich nor Jelly Bean have been able to surpass it!
By the way, these are not my assumptions or statistics, it is Google who has actually given out these numbers in the past month. In April 2013, Google gave out the latest numbers showing the adoption of the various Android versions in the mobile market.
And if you are wondering how Google was able to do this, the company has used the new more realistic metric. Google kept track of how many users manually visited the Google Play Store whereas previously the scores were calculated based on how many devices were connected to a Google server.
The numbers are actually quiet tricky, but I will try to put them in front of you in an easy way. First of all, as we already expected, it is Android Gingerbread that still leads the OS race. Then comes Android Jelly Bean (both 4.1 and 4.2 combined), and on third position, we have Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0). If you consider Jelly Bean separately, there are very few users on 4.2 and a majority of them are on 4.1. In spite of this fact, the total number of ICS 4.0 users surpass the total number of JB 4.1 users. So Jelly Bean is able to surpass Ice Cream Sandwich only when JB 4.1 and 4.2 are combined.
So there you have it, the results as of April 2103. The battle for the most used Android operating system still continues and we will be waiting for the next official result to come out, till then stay tuned.
