Micromax introduces Canvas Spark for 4999 INR aiming to lead further mass smartphone growth.

Micromax Mobile Tuesday introduced its latest 3G Key features of Canvas Spark Q-380 aiming to connect the next 100 million in India. The Canvas Spark is the 4th in series of new 3G launches from the company after the S300, D320 and Q324.

The Canvas Spark packs in a 4.7-inch qHD IPS display fortified with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The 3G dual SIM phone boasts of a 1.3 GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor coupled with a 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM (expandable up to 32GB), 8MP AF rear camera and 2MP FF front camera.

The Spark comes with the latest Android Lollipop 5.0, which makes it the most affordable device running on the latest Android platform to date. In addition, the company adds a plethora of useful apps like Hotstar, Newshunt, Saavn, Snapdeal, PayTm and Quikr.

The Spark follows a plain and simple design language and comes in a choice of two colors – White & Gold and Silver & Grey. It weighs only 134 grams and is 8.5mm thick. Its 2000 mAh battery ensures up to 335 hours of backup on standby mode, according to the press release.

At the launch event, Vineet Taneja, CEO of Micromax said, “Around 70mn Indians are upgrading to smartphone annually driven by the need to get connected to mobile internet. If we look at the current scenario, only 2mn smartphones sold monthly are under Rs 5,000/- vs. over 10mn feature phones which presents a huge opportunity to upgrade through a new offering.”

The phone is available exclusively on Snapdeal for Rs. 4,999. Users can register on the retailer’s website to book their smartphone. To lure potential customers, the company has also partnered with Vodafone India and offers 2 months of 500MB free 3G data for Vodafone users.

Commenting on the partnership with Micromax, Kunal Bahl, Co-Founder and CEO of Snapdeal said, “The availability of affordable smartphones is one of the key factors fuelling this growth.” He also added, “Our partnership with Micromax has been long standing and we are excited to be partnering with them on the launch of their latest offering.”
