MicroTugs might be the secret to revolutionizing the industrial world one more time, as researchers have developed a robot that can haul 2,000 times more than its own weight.
Imagine a world where tiny robots were able to lift and move massive weights and objects, and humans could utterly take the sideline. They wouldn’t have to worry about injury, tiring work, or tasks that could potentially be sidelined by human error. Essentially, a world where the human could carry out the thought, and then the hard work carried out by a very small robot.
Well, a team of researchers and scientists from Stanford has developed what they’re calling MicroTugs, and saying that they could be the way of the future. These tiny robots are amongst the most impressive pieces of technological advancement that have ever been found to date. They can carry a massive 2,000 times as much weight as they themselves weigh, which is a huge advantage over humans – and would be significantly more efficient than humans are at this point.
Right now, the team has developed a 9g, 12g, and 20g series of robots that are still too small to carry out larger tasks. However, the notion that these types of robots could be leading bigger operations is something that is entirely plausible at this point. Scientists argue that if they’re able to apply this same type of technology, which they believe is doable; it will give them the ability to create something on a significantly larger scale.
The larger scale that this would be happening on would be amongst the most impressive feats of technology to this point. The real world applications for this type of robotic technology would be limitless. On a very large scale, construction sites, building sites, medical technology, and so much more would all be positively impacted. This project has some of the most exciting results of any study that has been produced in the industrial space.
