Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox 720 or Xbox Infinity will have a lot of differences and will be targeting different consumer groups
The next generation of gaming consoles is almost here, the Sony PlayStation 4 is official and we will soon get to see the next-gen gaming console from Microsoft, the Microsoft Xbox 720 or the Xbox Infinity according to the latest rumors. Whatever be the name, both these next-gen gaming consoles are expected to hit the consumer market by holiday season this year, but it seems that they won’t be rivals any more!
The Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox have been two of the most popular gaming console series in the entire world. With the Sony PlayStation X (PSX), Sony was the key player in the video games market and came up with the Sony PlayStation 2 a few years later. These two gaming consoles have been rivals since a long time. It all started back in the past when Microsoft came up with the Xbox.
The Sony PlayStation 2 broke all records for the company and became the best-selling video game console of all time. The Sony PlayStation 2 was able to prove its superiority over Microsoft Xbox, but the same did not happen with the next generation. The battle between the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 turned the tables for Microsoft. Microsoft Xbox 360 has been the top-selling console in the U.S for more than two years now.
So the score seems to be even at 1-1, and as consumers look forward to yet another generation of gaming consoles, the battle seems to be taking a different turn as well. In fact, we doubt if the battle will actually continue, because it so happens that the Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox 720 or Xbox Infinity will have a lot of differences and will be targeting different consumer groups.
It will no longer be a question of ‘Which one out of the two is the best,’ instead you will now be asked ‘Which type of gaming console do you want?’ Because it turns out that Sony will still be focusing on hardcore gaming action whereas Microsoft will be looking towards entertainment for everyone.
Forbes contributor Paul Tassi recently wrote, “It’s true that we only have extremely limited information about Microsoft’s next console, and there are still questions about Sony ‘s PS4, but a narrative is starting to emerge.” He added, “”Sony is going to have a laserlike focus on games this time around, while Microsoft wants to create a device that everyone, gamers and non-gamers alike, will want to have in their living rooms.”
Does this mean that the famous rivalry between PlayStation and Xbox will finally come to an end? Or will the future bring these two next-gen gaming consoles to the battlefield eventually?
