As expected, Sony has launched the Xperia Z3+, the global variant of the Xperia Z4 smartphone earlier launched rather subtly at a low-key event in Japan. The new Xperia Z3+ will be launched globally next month alongside dual-SIM variant – Xperia Z3+ Dual, however, the company has not announced specific release dates for different markets.

It also retains the same 20.7-megapixel autofocus rear camera of its predecessor. Though it has been given a slight upgrade as it now features 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS BSI sensor, Bionz image processor, and a pulsed LED flash. The selfie cam on the new Xperia Z3+ has been given a significant upgrade, which now features a 5MP 25-mm wide angle lens camera with Exmor R BSI sensor, compared to the 2.2MP cam found on the Z3. The smartphone runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop with some minor tweaks offered by Sony.
In terms of memory, the handset comes with 32GB of internal storage, which is further expandable via a microSD slot. The battery on-board has been slightly cut down, as the Z3+ gets a 2930 mAh battery compared to the 3100mAh found on its predecessor.
Other features on the smartphone include IP65/IP68 equivalent certification, which the company touts makes the phone waterproof and dust resistant. Another notable feature of the device is its support for high-resolution audio with LDAC compression technology. While connectivity features on the phone include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi with hotspot, 3G, 4G LTE, GPS/ A-GPS, Glonass, Micro-USB, DLNA, and NFC.

Overall, Sony has manged to slightly tweak the design, spruced up the power, given the front cam a significant upgrade, while the battery unit has been cut down slightly eventually reducing the handset’s weight. One notable design change that’ll stand out prominently is that the new Xperia Z3+ just gets one flap, located at the top left of the device. Another significant change that’ll please Xperia fans is that the microUSB port housed at the bottom edge of the new Z3+ is always exposed, implying no more fiddling with the flap when plugging in the charger, which could really annoying during poor lighting conditions.
The smartphone is expected to be launched by June 2015, and will be available in a choice of four colours – namely Black, White, Copper, and Aqua Green.
