Samsung has announced the Galaxy S6 Active, and the rugged phone will be available starting June 12 exclusively at AT&T.
Samsung has finally announced the much rumored Galaxy S6 Active and has made its exclusive availability on AT&T. The phone will be available starting June 12 via AT&T’s website and the company’s retail stores, while details regarding its availability outside the US are yet to be divulged.
“With the Galaxy S6 active, we’re delivering consumers with high durability coupled with the powerful performance of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone,” said Tim Baxter, President & COO & Mobile Division GM of Samsung Electronics America during the launch. “The result is a smartphone that brings ruggedized capabilities and water resistance coupled with the camera, battery and design features that empower our consumers and business users to do more.”
The exact price of the handset is yet to be revealed, though it did mention the installment details of the device. Users can get it for no down-payment on AT&T Next for $23.17 with 30 device payments on Next SM 243, $28.96 per month at 24 payments on Next 18, or pay $34.75 a month at 20 payments on Next 12.
In addition, the Galaxy maker and AT&T have also announced limited period offers for the Galaxy S6 Active buyers. Buyers can get a Galaxy Tab 4.8.0 for free with the device on a two-year agreement, or they can even buy the Samsung Wireless Charging Pad for 50 percent off with Next.
The Samsung Galaxy Active S6 has more or less the same specifications as its original flagship. Though it gets an IP68 rating making it water-resistant up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. The smartphone is also dust and shock resistant and also meets the US Mil-STD-810G standard for withstanding vibration, temperature extremes, humidity and high altitude. It misses out on the fingerprint sensor as expected, and gets three physical buttons instead, unlike the Galaxy S6 that houses the fingerprint on the Home button.
Coming on to the specs, the Galaxy S6 Active features a 5.1-inch QuadHD Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of a staggering 557ppi. Under the hood, the smartphone gets powered by Samsung’s in-house octa-core 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor and runs the latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
Optics on the smartphone include a 16MP rear camera bundled with LED flash along with a 5MP selfie sensor. While another substantial addition is a 3500mAh battery, which is a 40 percent increase compared to its flagship sibling. The device also comes with built-in wireless charging capabilities.
The Samsung Galaxy Active will be available in three color options – Camo White, Camo Blue, or Gray and will go on sale starting June 12.
