The internal storage shortage problem being reported in the Samsung Galaxy S4 might be taken care of in the next update. After getting a number of complaints from consumers, Samsung is trying to come up with a solution to the problem.

Samsung Galaxy S4 consumers have been complaining about the low storage space available on the 16GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S4. It so happens that out of the 16GB of internal storage space present in the Galaxy S4 device, only 8.8GB is available to the consumers whereas the remaining part is used up by the system software and custom apps that come preloaded with the device.

Consumers who have been using the 16GB Samsung Galaxy S4 must already be facing this problem and if you have not already pointed this out to the company, then it is okay even if you don’t do so. This is because Samsung already knows about the problem and is trying to come up with a solution for the same. The company is planning to try and do something about this in the next software update.

Samsung said

“We appreciate this issue being raised and we will improve our communications. We are reviewing the possibility to secure more memory space through further software optimization. Samsung is committed to listening to our customers and responding to their needs as part of our innovation process.”

Even though software optimization could help, we doubt if the amount of extra space will be good enough to make the consumers really happy. Alternately, it is being said that Samsung, who has been advising consumers to buy a microSD card in order to expand storage space might actually give out free microSD cards to unhappy Samsung Galaxy S4 consumers in order to try and solve the problem.

Even though there is a big difference between internal storage and added storage, we assume that this move will help a lot of consumers. Alternately, for those who have not bought the Samsung Galaxy S4 yet, we have good news for you! Google has announced a new stock version of Samsung Galaxy S4 which will not have any of the additional UI tweaks and custom apps provided by Samsung. So this stock device will offer you more internal storage space to begin with.
