Users can now claim the Mayorship crown again as the old school feature is now back on Swarm by Foursquare for both iOS and Android, the company announced on Monday.
Finally! Foursquare ‘Mayorships’ are back, a feature missed by many who’ve tried Foursquare since the privately owned company split into two apps last year – Foursquare and Swarm. From now on, fans can once again become a mayor on Swarm, not only against their friends, they can now compete against all users. The move was announced on Monday on Foursquare’s blog, which officially confirmed that the update has been rolled out on iOS and Android.
The move had been long due, as Foursquare announced almost two months ago that they’ll be bringing its popular ‘Mayorship’ feature back to the Swarm social networking app.
“You’ve been asking, and they’re finally back! Starting today, you can earn mayorships again,” The app description reads. “Just check in more than anyone else and you’ll unlock a brand new, shiny mayor crown. But watch out, because people will be trying to steal them from you.”
Many users expressed their discontent when the feature was suddenly removed from Swarm, eventually resulting in the apps low ratings on the App Store. It took most of the fun out of Foursquare, as users no longer had leaderboards, badges neither mayorship.
Thankfully, these features are gradually rolling out to Swarm. To become a mayor of a particular location, a user with the maximum number of check-ins over the last 30 days gets the title of the mayor. In addition, users who win the mayorship title get a shiny crown on their avatar every time they check into that place.
“Only one check-in per day counts, and ties go to the reigning mayor,” Foursquare said. “We’ve been tallying all of your check-ins from the past month, so go see if you’ve already proven yourself worthy of the mayor crown at your local spots.”
Users will be rather pleased with this announcement as the old school feature is finally back on Swarm. The update is now available for download on both iOS and Android, so interested users can go right ahead on their respective platforms and start downloading.
