Microsoft will finally launch its 4G LTE Surface 3 tablets starting with Japan, Germany and the UK, announcing two more variants with 4GB RAM and 64/128GB storage options.
Microsoft has finally confirmed the launch of 4G LTE-enabled Surface 3 models in the UK and Germany starting July 3rd. The company also added that the 4G LTE models will be available in France and Spain at some point in the coming future. Carrier support initially will include the likes of Deutsche Telekom in Germany, Orange Business Services in France, Movistar in Spain while its carrier in the UK would be O2.
“We’re happy to announce Surface 3 (4G LTE) will become available to business customers through the first partner operators on July 3rd in Germany and the United Kingdom, and later, in France and Spain,” said Microsoft.
To buy these 4G LTE Surface 3 models, it is mandatory for users to be a business customer. Microsoft says that the response for Surface 3 has so far been quite phenomenal from business users. “We see particular excitement for our LTE-enabled Surface 3 with businesses and their sales forces, which is why this initial announcement is focused on business availability,” said Microsoft.
Hence, the Windows maker has announced two new configurations i.e. 64GB, and 128GB, the duo come with 4GB of RAM and run Windows 8.1 Pro, and will be upgraded to Windows 10 when it arrives. The company is also planning to offer the 4G LTE-enabled Surface Pro 3 through retail and commercial channels in France, Germany, the UK and the US, which will be happening ‘in the coming weeks’, adds Microsoft.
Back in March, Microsoft officials said that the 4G LTE models will be available in the US through T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. The inclusion the 4G LTE feature would make the cost of the Surface 3 go up by $100 compared to its non-4G counterparts.
So far, the response for the Surface 3 has been rather positive, especially from business customers. It runs Windows 8.1 in all its entirety. Hence, users don’t have to settle for limited mobile apps while on the go. The Surface 3 can also be used as a regular desktop, in addition to being a laptop and a tablet, thus making it one of the most versatile hybrids out there. It takes inspiration from what made the Surface Pro 3 great, that too at a fraction of that price.
