Dell XPS 12 Release Date, Specs, Rumors: New XPS 12 (2015) > Surface Pro 3 > iPad Pro

With Microsoft’s Surface Pro range setting the benchmark for hybrid devices in the mainstream 2-in-1 market along with the recent unveiling of Apple’s iPad Pro, it seems Dell is prepping its own hybrid device. A popular German technology focused blog has now leaked a few images of Dell’s upcoming 2-in-1 hybrid laptop.

Going by the leaked images, it appears that the new Dell XPS 12 will have a detachable keyboard that attaches itself magnetically to the tablet, something similar we saw with Microsoft’s Surface range. The upcoming hybrid from Dell is also expected to feature an illuminated keyboard that the company touts will apparently ‘ work flawlessly.’

Notably, the information listed also suggests that the upcoming XPS 12 surpasses the Surface Pro 3 in terms of display, as Dell’s hybrid will reportedly sport a 4K UHD (3840×2160) display with an InfinityEdge design that eventually gives it a very small bezel area around the screen.

Other rumored specs on the device include an 8MP primary camera along with a 5MP selfie cam. In addition, it’ll include a Thunderbolt 3 port, USB Type-C ports along with 10 hours of battery life. Though as of now, there’s no information regarding its innards such as the hybrid’s processor or the amount of RAM, neither is there any information about storage options.

However, we might see the Dell XPS 12 launch sometime in October as pointed in the leak. Moreover, this along with Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 release date also round the corner, it seems it’ll turn out to be a rather strong start for the latest Windows 10.

The upcoming Dell XPS 12 will be facing some stiff competition from the recently unveiled monster tab from Apple – the iPad Pro. Aimed at professionals, the Apple iPad Pro comes with a stylus – dubbed as Apple Pencil and a detachable Smart Keyboard, and promise to meet all of a user’s productivity needs. However, the giant iPad is primarily built on the iOS platform while the upcoming Dell XPS 12 will be running a full-fledged version of Windows 10, which should make it capable of offering that complete hybrid experience. Though it’s still early days to come to a conclusion, we’ll see how productive these hybrids turn out to be for users in the near future.

Why Apple iPad Pro could be a failure like Surface RT

Meanwhile, Dell CEO in a recent interview said that Top 3 PC manufacturers would account for a lion’s share of the PC market in the coming five years. He said that despite Lenovo, HP and Dell currently accounting for just over half of the all the PCs sold, their market share could grow to about 80 percent in the next five to seven years.
