AT&T on Friday announced a new ‘Buy One Get One Free’ offer for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus along with Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy Note 5 and few other handsets from the Korean manufacturer.
The new promotional offer lasts until December 31st, 2015, where AT&T customers who upgrade or activate AT&T Next on eligible devices will be entitled to get another handset for free, or a $650 credit to purchase another eligible handset model. The phone isn’t essentially “free of cost” though rather some — sort of — financing deal in which the company waives a customer’s monthly payments in the form of credits paid out over a period of 30 months. Hence, if they cancel the contract before that period, the full unpaid balance on the phone will be due.
Like anything else, there is some fine print.
“When you buy both on AT&T Next with qual. svc. (min. $70/mo.). Free after up to $650 in 30 monthly bill credits. (Credits start within 3 bills). Tax due at sale… Free device req’s new line on AT&T Next 24 with 30-mo. 0% APR agmt (up to $21.67/mo.). Pay up to $65.01 on free device before credits start. If svc. canceled on 1, that device balance (up to $950) is due. Activ./upgrade & other fees, monthly & other charges & restr. apply. Void in CT, RI & Miami-Dade.”
AT&T will spread the $650 bill credit into 28 or 30 monthly installments. While users on AT&T Next 24 will receive $21.60 over a period of 30 months, and AT&T Next users with a down-payment will get $23.22 over a period of 28 months, both amounting to a total of $650.
Notably, the carrier did not publicly advertise the deal for the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, though AT&T representatives have confirmed that customers can learn more about exact terms and conditions of the offer by visiting AT&T Stores or by contacting the carrier itself.
