Windows 10 Mobile to start rolling out on Windows Phone 8.1 Devices on January 12, claims a new report by Nokia Power User.
Microsoft earlier announced that Windows 10 Mobile has been delayed until January 2016, though did not specify an exact timeline. Now a new report by NPU claims Windows 10 Mobile rollout will commence starting January 12. In fact, the report also claims that Microsoft is also expected to unveil the Lumia 850 or the Lumia 650.
Of course, the report comes from an anonymous tipster so one can’t really vouch for NPUs claims. Nevertheless, the date falls in line with Microsoft’s “soon” Windows 10 Mobile rollout. While other sources suggest that Microsoft is still working on the giving the OS those much needed final touches from Windows Insiders feedback.
It’s also worth pointing out that not all Windows 10 Mobile features will be available to all Lumia phones as it will depend on the hardware inside. Let’s just hope Microsoft has something good for Windows fans whenever the update arrives.
The company has already promised timely updates with the launch of Windows 10 Mobile. From now on, Microsoft says it’ll have complete control over the Windows update process. Hence, the Windows maker has the final decision at its disposal to remove carrier barriers out of the way, thereby reducing events where users have to wait for an awfully long time.
To get the update which is likely to arrive ‘soon’, users will need to have the Lumia Denim update (version 8.10.14219.341, or higher) to be eligible for the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade. In addition, 8GB of free space is required so that users can install the update. Below is the list of old Lumia phones scheduled to get the update first when it rolls out:
- Lumia 430
- Lumia 435
- Lumia 535
- Lumia 540
- Lumia 635
- Lumia 640 and 640 XL
- Lumia 735
- Lumia 830
- Lumia 930
