Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 11099 available to Fast ring Insiders

It’s 2016 and here comes the first Insider Preview of Windows 10 of the calendar year. The build 11099 is coming straight from Redstone (rs1_redstone) branch, and it’s the second build with no tangible changes rather than structural improvements and optimizations.

Windows Insider head Gabriel Aul has detailed that the Windows team has been refactoring code and doing some other engineering work to optimize OneCore, which is the shared core of Windows across devices. As soon as the core work is done, teams will start submitting change sets with new features. In the meantime, Gabe also noted that the progress dialog when copying, moving or deleting files via File Explorer is restored in this build, which was a known glitch in Build 11082.

Hence, for those continuing to stay in the Slow ring will have to wait a bit more because a few more builds are likely in the Fast ring before any really noticeable changes show up and the Windows maker plans a more stable release. While, Fast Ring Insiders can download Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 11099 through Windows Update.

Following the rollout, Gabe reiterated that they would be speeding up the Fast ring throwing frequent builds that might include more bugs and issues, and that ride could be a bit painful. So it’s advised to stick with the Slow ring to get less frequent but more stable builds.

Known issues for Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 11099

  • Log on for devices using Citrix XenDesktop may be broken. It is recommended that Insiders that use XenDesktop skip this flight by moving to the Slow ring.
  • Applications that depend on Adobe Flash may crash upon launch. This will affect some version of Skype, QQ, WeChat, etc. This does not affect Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer.
