With no official announcement, Windows 10 Mobile OTA has started rolling out to a limited number of T-Mobile Lumia 640 users in Poland, and it will continue to arriving in phases depending on your device and location.
With Windows 10 Mobile update, the OS version bumps to Build 10.0.10586.29, while the firmware of the phone remains same i.e. 02177.00000.15184.36002. Microsoft didn’t comment or confirm the update though it signs Windows 10 Mobile update to old Lumia phones is about to gain momentum.
In related news, French carrier Bouygues Telecom confirmed that they will be pushing the update to select Lumia phones next week, which includes Lumia 635/640/640 XL, Lumia 730/735, Lumia 830, Lumia 930, Lumia 1520, and Lumia 532/535/540/636/638. In addition, T-Mobile Netherlands hinted that they’re planning to kick off the rollout between now and January 21.
Moreover, T-Mobile Germany has also published a list of Lumia phones, which includes the 535, 635, 640 LTE, 640 XL, 830 and 930 – that originally shipped with Windows Phone 8.1, which are in line for the Windows 10 Mobile update scheduled for early next week.
To help Lumia users, Microsoft has also released UpdateAdvisor app that basically checks whether your Windows phone is eligible to get the update or not. Besides, it also suggests necessary changes before installing Windows 10 Mobile OTA update like moving files to get the minimum required free space and installing prerequisites.
FYI, if you want to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile on your Windows Phone 8.1 device, you’ll need to have the Lumia Denim update (Version 8.10.14219.341, or higher) to be eligible for the update. Besides, make sure your phone has 8GB internal storage with around 1.5 GB of free space too.
Surprisingly, Vodafone Australia has left Lumia 630 users in the lurch as the cellular isn’t working on the OS update for the 630. And on the same note, HTC UK confirmed while replying to a user’s query that there’re no further updates planned for the HTC Windows Phone 8X too.
