Microsoft is expected to launch Lumia 650 on February 1st ahead of the Mobile World Congress. It will likely be a low-specs phone and perhaps the last.

Microsoft is not exactly renowned for phones, but the company launched the Lumia 640 handset in 2015, which had some impact. Since then a number of rumors have circulated about further upcoming Microsoft phones such as the Lumia 650 and 850 models. Now, reports highlight that Microsoft is planning to launch the Lumia 650 on February 1st.

According to previous rumors, the current Lumia maker will not showcase the phone at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. Most expect that Microsoft will reveal the Lumia 650 on its official blog, where the company will also provide pricing details for the handset.

That isn’t much of a surprise for the Lumia 650 is only a low-spec budget phone. It would make little sense for Microsoft to give a low-spec phone lots of fanfare at MWC. It would make even less sense when most expect that Samsung and LG will be unveiling new flagship models such as the Galaxy S7 and G5 at the show. Those will be much higher-spec handsets than the 650, and would probably completely overshadow it at MWC.

If its rumored specifications are anything to go by, the Lumia 650 is not that much to get excited about. The unofficial specs for the phone highlight that it will have a Snapdragon 212 processor. It will, of course, be a Windows 10 Mobile.

It’s expected storage specs are also fairly basic. The 650 will likely have 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. However, it will have a microSD slot to expand the internal storage with.

Note that Microsoft has reportedly canceled the launch of other phones such as the 750 and 850 as part of a streamlining strategy. That will leave the Lumia 650 as the last Lumia phone allegedly.

So, we probably can’t expect much from Microsoft handsets in 2016 except the rumored Surface phone. The Lumia 650 will fill a small business niche, but it won’t be a match for the big handsets from Samsung and LG.

The list below includes expected Lumia 650 specifications.

  • OS: Windows 10 Mobile
  • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 212
  • RAM: 1 GB
  • ROM: 8 GB
  • Display: 5-inch 720p display
  • Cameras: 8-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera
  • Battery: 2000 mAh battery
