Microsoft is all set to unleash its Lumia 650 in the US and Canada where the Windows 10 phone has been listed for $199 and CAD199 respectively.
Microsoft’s newest mobile showpiece, the Lumia 650 has finally made a landfall in North America, with availability confirmed in the US and Canada. Price continues to be among its biggest strong points in both markets, priced as it is at $199 and CAD 199 respectively. The price mentioned applies to the sim free unlocked version of the phone.
In mid-February, Microsoft launched the Lumia 650, which has so far been available in Europe only. It’s good to see the handset now beginning to appear in other markets as well including India where the Windows phone has recently been spotted on Amazon India site for INR 16,599. However, the official Microsoft Store page is still showing the ‘Coming soon’ tag for the phone.
Microsoft has so far been struggling to find a foothold in the immensely competitive mobile segment with none of its recent launches making any good. That might change with the new Lumia 650 that has received rave reviews so far though that is primarily due to its looks and affordable price tag.
The Lumia 650 is one more to come with Windows 10 in recent times and is also expected to be the last of the Lumia series to be launched in 2016. Whether the Lumia brand survives beyond the 650 is also another topic of debate though that deviates from the topic on hand.
Coming back to the Lumia 650, the phone is built around a 1.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 chip and comes with 1GB RAM along with 16GB of internal storage. The latter is again expandable further to 200GB max via microSD cards. Up front, it’s a 5-inch AMOLED ClearBlack 720×1280 pixel HD display that makes for a pixel density of 297 ppi.
The rest of specifications include an 8-megapixel primary camera with LED flash as well a 5-megapixel front sensor. The handset also comes with dual sim slots and runs on a 2000mAh power source. Also of course, it’s Windows 10 Mobile that is running the show which in turn has also climbed several notches in the likeability stakes thanks to the recent spate of software upgrades while more are also in the offing.
Special mention must also be made of the stylish looks that the 650 sports, aided in no small part by the diamond cut metal frame that runs all around the sides. The handset is also among the slimmest around, being just 6.9mm thick.
Microsoft though is positioning the 650 as a business phone and comes pre-loaded accordingly with the latest versions of Microsoft Office and OneNote besides other security features.
