The Scariest Documentaries Streaming Now On Hulu – Dread Central

If you’re like me, you’re a sucker for a trume crime documentary, or at least a documentary that’s going to absolutely shake you to the core. And the weirder and more twisted, the better. That’s why I love Hulu’s new documentary series Captive Audience, which peels back the strange layers of the Stayner case. In 1978 a young boy went missing for seven years, which launched the famous “stranger danger” campaign. But the story doesn’t stop there as the boy’s brother turns out to be another kind of villain. It’s a twisted tale about a highly publicized case and the darker side of the Stayner family.
Hulu is becoming a go-to destination for true crime documentaries and docu-series, knowing what us sickos crave. They have a wide range of topics, too, from murder to the vaguely supernatural. But where do you start, especially if you really want to be scared? We have a few suggestions.
Another bizarre and fascinating documentary on Hulu is Dead Asleep. It follows a man who claims that he committed a murder while sleepwalking. In 2017, Randy Herman, Jr. murdered his roommate and childhood best friend. He claimed to have no recollection of the event and blamed sleep arousal disorder. It’s such a strange case that actually gained attention on TikTok as the victim’s sister posted about her distate for the documentary.
Then there’s Pharma Bro, which is a little different than most of the documentaries on this list. But what makes this so disturbing is how it reveals just how evil pharmarceutical executive Martin Shkreli was, and presumably still is. His crimes may not be murder, but they may as well be as he scammed hundreds of people with his desire for money. This documentary is a sliipery slope of portraying Shkreli’s crimes and trying to paint him with a bit more empathy. It doesn’t always work. But if you’re interested in learning more about the case, check this one out on Hulu.
