After many years of waiting and anticipation, Tesla is finally adding Apple Music to its cars.
Aaron Cash shared photos via Twitter of Tesla’s new exhibit at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, which opened November 20, 2022. Aaron found that Apple Music was included in one of Tesla’s vehicles.
At the exhibit, Tesla has the interior of the new Model S set up, complete with a center console, steering wheel and infotainment system so that attendees can experience the yoke steering wheel and its blazing-fast processing for maps, games, and entertainment.
The ‘vehicle’ was running a developer version of Tesla’s OS with version number 2022.40.50, and this is where Apple Music was found.
Tesla’s notorious for leaving Easter eggs and hints about upcoming features in their software, and having this vehicle run a developer version with Apple Music appears to have been intentional. We first speculated that Apple Music was coming when an icon was spotted during Zoom’s conference where they showcased their video conference running in Teslas.
According to the software menu in the vehicle, the vehicle’s VIN was set to ‘P3TERS3N1P000BUCK.
Tesla will be integrating Apple Music into their music player, instead of actually running an Apple Music app, which has both, positives and negatives. On the positive side, the UI will be consistent and similar to Tesla’s other music offerings, and its expected to support Tesla’s voice commands as well. However, it could mean that not all Apple Music features may be available.
Apple recently announced that Apple Music would support Spatial Audio in some vehicles. In addition to Spatial Audio, Apple Music also supports lossless audio for a variety of music. Apple describes these features as creating an immersive audio experience that produces “true multidimensional sound and clarity.”
It’s not clear whether Tesla is implementing Spatial Audio or lossless audio support in their implementation of Apple Music, but we may be limited to the core features. Tesla currently supports high-quality audio with TIDAL.
The Tesla release notes for the inclusion of Apple Music have been shared on Twitter by TeslaRaj. Although they don’t reveal much, it does confirm that you’ll need Premium Connectivity to stream Apple Music over cellular, or use WiFi, either while parked and connected to a local access point or using your phone as a hotspot. You’ll also need a subscription to Apple Music. It does not mention Dolby Atmos or lossless audio, so it’s a real possibility that those options are not included, at least upon Apple Music’s initial release. Tesla’s release notes are as follows:

There is no official release date for Apple Music, but the wait should not be long. It’s highly anticipated that Tesla will add Apple Music with this year’s holiday update, which is expected later next month.
Last year Tesla released a holiday update that included the ability to create custom light shows, a new UI, a customizable launcher, the addition of the blind spot camera and more. This year’s holiday update is expected to include a variety of new features as well.
Apple Music, which surpassed 100 million songs back in October, is one of the last major streaming services to be added to Tesla’s vehicles. Currently, Tesla offers Spotify, TIDAL, Slacker Radio, TuneIn, and SiriusXM (Model S/X only). To stream music through any of these services you’ll need to be subscribed to Tesla’s Premium Connectivity for $9.99/mo.

Tesla has quietly refreshed its Model S vehicles, introducing a new “high-visibility glass roof,” improved brake pads, and many other features. In an email to owners, the company lists several new tweaks to the latest Model S.
The new, Ultra Red paint grabbed all the attention. Tesla unveiled its high-chroma color and multi-layered paint process, delivering an exceptionally vibrant finish. But several other features in that Ultra Red launch video (below) are worth just as much attention.
The new and improved panoramic roof for the Model S lets in more light and provides a clearer view of the sky, day or night, according to the message from Tesla. The new glass roof weighs less than the previous version and lets in five times more light, while still providing the same level of heat and UV protection. According to Tesla, the new roof also improves handling by lowering the center of gravity.
In addition, Tesla has integrated its new hardware 4 computer for Autopilot and self-driving capabilities, and the Model S now offers a free option of a round steering wheel.
Tesla’s vehicle updates are always highly anticipated; the latest refresh is no exception. The improved brake pads with higher thermal capacity are designed to improve the Model S Plaid’s braking performance.
Tesla announced the Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit in late 2021, but it is still not available for purchase. Tesla says they will be available in “early 2023.” The kit costs $20,000 and is said to make the Model S Plaid a true monster on the track.
Although the ceramic brake kit isn’t available to the public yet, test driver Sebastian Vittel raced a Model S Plaid taking on the Circuit de Bresse race track in France with the new performance brakes (video below). Despite the track being best suited for small, nimble cars, the Model S Plaid with the Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit was able to set a track record for street-legal cars on non-semi-slick tires with a lap time of 1:33.610. This record was set with the vehicle’s original tires, indicating that the brakes were a significant factor in the vehicle’s impressive performance.

Tesla is getting ready to introduce a new feature that allows owners to charge their cars using surplus solar energy. If your home is generating more energy than it’s using, this excess energy can be directed automatically to your car.
For owners of solar panels, there have been limited options when your panels are generating more energy than you’re using. The system tops off your Powerwalls if you have them, but once those are full, the system sends any excess energy back to the grid.
However, if you have a Tesla, you’ll soon be able to automatically start charging your vehicle whenever excess energy is being generated. This is according to new text-based information found in the latest Tesla app, according to Twitter user Tesla App iOS. Tesla is calling this new feature “Drive on Sunshine,” which focuses on providing the cleanest charge possible for Tesla vehicles.
Tesla has already started updating their app with some details regarding this new feature. The feature will instruct users to plug in at home during daytime hours, to take advantage of the surplus clean energy their solar system produces.
The Tesla app allows you to set a charging limit for your vehicle. However, once this new feature is enabled, you’ll gain access to two charging sliders. The first slider will control how much your vehicle is charged, regardless of where the energy is coming from. You’ll be guaranteed to have this amount of charge every night. However, you’ll have access to a new slider that lets you set the maximum charge level, but only using your solar system’s clean energy.
This will allow you to set your charging limit to a minimum amount every day, such as 60%. You could then set your solar limit to something much higher, such as 90%. This will allow your vehicle will charge up to this limit when your solar system is producing excess energy.
By setting charge limits and specifying the desired charging times and locations, Tesla owners can ensure that their vehicles are being fully charged before excess energy is sent to the grid.
Last September, we pondered if Tesla could develop something similar to Apple’s Clean Energy Charging. Apple optimized iPhone charging times by prioritizing clean energy sources from the grid. This approach aligns with Tesla’s mission to create zero-emission vehicles that can charge using clean, renewable energy.
The app also lets users charge their vehicle’s battery using available energy sources for regular daily driving needs while reserving a portion of the battery to be charged exclusively when surplus solar energy is available.
This new functionality enables Tesla owners to charge their cars using renewable solar energy, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels throughout the charging and driving experience.
Tesla’s goal is to make EV ownership as sustainable as possible by minimizing the use of fossil fuels and promoting clean charging options. When a household generates more solar energy than it can consume, this excess power can be directed toward charging the vehicle. Tesla again began offering the Powerwall as a standalone product, allowing customers to purchase the battery storage system without requiring a solar array.
The Drive on Sunshine feature is a major step forward in Tesla’s mission to make electric vehicle ownership as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. With this update, Tesla continues demonstrating its commitment to creating a cleaner, greener future for all.
