Just when everyone might have thought we know all that there can be of the iPhone X, here comes another and maybe the last set of leaks that sheds some more light on the upcoming device. And the best thing about it is that the leak originates right from within Apple, or the Golden Master build of iOS 11 to be specific, which makes it far more credible than anything we have had so far.
To begin with what can easily be termed the biggest USP of the iPhone X, the edge-to-edge display, the code leak now confirms the iPhone X will be sporting the True Tone Display tech we have seen earlier on the iPad Pro. The resolution too is getting an uptick to 2436 x 1125 pixels while the display aspect ratio will be matching what is shaping up to be the new industry standard – the rather longish 18.5:9.
Also, with the physical home button of yore making way for the enlarged display, much of its functionalities are being passed on to the side power button. So while there is the usual power or wake on and off function that a single press invokes, there is the new double press introduced that will launch Apple Pay card. Similarly, a longer press will initiate Siri.
There is going to be some changes made to the user interface as well to take into account the removal of the physical home button. Instead, there will be a new home-bar sitting at the bottom, and you need to swipe up the same each time you wish to return to the home screen.
Also, of course, the new UI is designed to take into account the larger screen real estate together with the slight cut-out at the top. So the usual status bar info that occupies the top of the display is accommodated on either side of the cut-out and appears to look a tad smaller than what it has been on iPhone devices so far.
Together with the new UI, there will be new emojis to be seen as well, or animoji, in Apple-speak. To make things clear, the emoji are now in 3D. Plus, those can also animate better using face and voice tracking technologies, making them more lifelike than before.
Among the other bits that the iOS 11 Golden master leak reveals is the change in nomenclature for the iPhone devices. So there is going to be no ‘s’ suffixed devices. Instead, there will be the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus accompanying the iPhone X anniversary version.
Also, of course, there is going to be the new 3D facial recognition feature, which would serve to be the primary authentication mode, something that the code leak reveals will be referred to as Face ID in marketing parlance.
Meanwhile, the code leak also sort of confirms a few other aspects of the upcoming Apple event. It is about the new LTE Apple Watch Series 3, something that was being rumored for long. The new watch has its hour, minute and second arm done up in red to help distinguish from the regular non-LTE variant.
Then there is going to be new tweaked AirPods as well that come with some minor enhancements, like say, the charge indicator light is placed on the exterior so that you don’t have to open it to find out if it is charged and such.
The new iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X together with the LTE Smartwatch Series 3 is slated to launch during the Apple event scheduled just this Tuesday.
