The moment is finally here, Apple has lifted the veils off its newest range of iPhone devices. Though we have had tons of pre-launch info with regards to the three phones, it is always a treat watching the real thing getting revealed.
Built from surgical grade stainless steel that holds the front and rear glass panel, the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max offes 5.8 and 6.5-inch of OLED goodness in a form factor that is about the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus while still offering a bigger display. To be available in stunnig shades of new gold, silver and space gray, the new iPhones are being claimed to be the most advanced Apple has ever made.
Much of that has to do with the new A12 bionic chip that the phone comes powered with. Apple also stated it is the first 7 nm chip they have come up with and the benefits are obvious. That includes faster CPU(6 Core)and GPU(4 Core) performance as is a more advanced neural network(8 Core). The new phones also support faster algorithm and faster secure enclave and can process 5 trillion operation per second.
The iPhone XR will serve as the entry-level version offering almost the same design as its stable mates. However, the XR will be sporting a 6.1-inch LCD panel aka Liquid Retina and will be carved out of space grade aluminum which Apple said provides it with unatched levels of rigidity. Also, there will be no 3D Touch but Heptic Touch, with 12MP wide angle camera and f/1.8 aperture.
When it comes to battery life, iPhone XR will last 1.5 more hours than 8 plus. Also, battery life or iPhone XS is said to be 30 minutes more than iPhone X and iPhone XS Max can last 1.5 hours more than iPhone X.
Another unique aspect of the new iPhones is that they come with new stereo speakers that support better surround sound capabilities. The new iPhone XS and XS Max are also IP68 compliant, which means the ability to survive for 30 mins max under 2 meters of water. The iPhone XR however carries an IP67 rating, whch means it’s slightly less capable when dealing with the elements.
The new iPhones will also support dual sim functionality though in a different manner. That’s because there will in reality be a single physical SIM slot thoguh the phones will still have dual numbers and dual data plans. That would be in the form of Apple’s eSIM though that again is something that needs the direct support of carriers for it to get started. Apple calls this Dual Sim Dual Standby (DSDS) technology. However, there will be a special edition for china with two sims on same tray as eSIM is not available there.
Further, Face ID has further been improved upon and is now the default authentication system across the entire iPhone range. That also means the Home button has been done away with while the three iPhone version now come with the famous notch design theme. Also, the notch is where the sensors, earpiece, depth sensing camera and so on are all packed in. Together, they power the Face ID feature so that the user’s face becomes the password to not only unlock the iPhone but to also authenticate Apple Pay transactions.
However, with the basic design remaining much the same, that also means a similar layout as the previous gen iPhone X. So the dual lens rear cam is exactly in the ame location though Apple stated the camera is now vastly improved over what it was on the iPhone X. Front camera has 7MP sensor while rear comes with 12MP wide-angle and 12MP telephoto sensor. It has advance bokeh and dual OIS with f/1.8 for wide angle and f/2.7 for telephoto lens.
As for its storage size configuration, the base iPhone XR will be available in 64, 128 and 512 GB storage, with prices starting at $749. Next up is the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both of which will be available in 128, 256 and 512 GB of storage. Price for the iPhone XS starts at $999 while the same for the iPhne XS Max is an eye popping $1099. Pre-order for XS and XS Max will start on September 14 and phones will start shipping out on Sept. 21. However, pre-orders for iPhone XR will start from October 19 and shipment from Oct 26.
