Sony has officially announced the Sony Xperia C (S39h), the company’s first smartphone that is powered by a quad-core MediaTek SoC. This new smartphone will have dual-SIM support and will be available in China through China Unicom.
Even though the name MediaTek might sound new, the Sony Xperia C is not just another smartphone that you come across every now and then. It is a high-end smartphone that has a 5-inch qHD display and has dual-SIM support (WCDMA and GSM). Instead of opting for the regular Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, Sony decided to try out the quad-core MediaTek MT6589 SoC (System on Chip).
As mentioned earlier, this new smartphone is being made for China Unicom and will be available in three different colors namely White, Black and Purple. With Sony Xperia C, Sony wants to take on popular Chinese brands that are also powered by MediaTek processors. The Sony Xperia C also has an 8MP Exmor R primary camera with voice shutter function, and to add more value to the device, Sony will also be offering over 3 million tracks from Duomi, which can be accessed by consumers in China.
As of now, the company has not given out any information about the price and availability of this device. When it does, we will bring you the update, so stay tuned.
