Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei has officially unveiled the Huawei Ascend W2 smartphone. The Huawei Ascend W2 is a mid-segment smartphone that runs on Windows Phone 8, but does not really have impressive specs.
The Huawei Ascend W2 is official, but it really does not seem to be a mid-segment smartphone that you would readily want to buy. The reason being that the device does not seem to be so impressive as far as specs and features are concerned. The Huawei Ascend W2 has a 4.3-inch WVGA screen with a display resolution of 800×480 pixels. The device is powered by a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, standard graphics and has 512MB of RAM. The device provides 8GB of internal storage, but we doubt whether it will have microSD card support.
With the available specs described above, we doubt whether the Huawei Ascend W2 will qualify as a mid-segment device or will it eventually be considered as an entry-level device running on Window Phone 8. In addition to being not so popular in the Windows Phone market, Huawei already has an opponent that will be difficult to compete with, let alone the chances of winning. This opponent is Nokia, a company that offers the Lumia Series – the best in class devices that run on Windows Phone 8.
One thing that can still make a lot of difference for Huawei is the price tag that the Huawei Ascend W2 will have. If the company is able to offer the Huawei Ascend W2 at a very low price, there is a good probability that consumers who love budget friendly smartphone will go for it. And if you happen to be one of them, then you will be able to choose from three color options – Red, Yellow and Black.
