We have some sad news for HTC One S consumers who have been waiting for the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for their devices. HTC has officially announced that the HTC One S will not get the Android 4.2.2 Update, meaning that One S consumers will not be able to move past Android 4.1 and HTC Sense 4 UI.
The HTC One S was one of the most popular Android devices launch by the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer last year. In fact, the HTC One S was the flagship model of the company, and just about a year after its release, HTC has decided to stop rolling out Android updates for it. This indicates that HTC One S will remain on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The Company confirms unavailability of the update to HTC One S saying
“We can confirm that the HTC One S will not receive further Android OS updates and will remain on the current version of Android and HTC Sense. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed the HTC One S to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences.”
It must have been hard for HTC to make this announcement, but the company should have considered the possible reaction of consumers who put faith in their devices. Given the fact that CyanogenMod and many other Android developers were able to get the HTC One S running on Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5, the task should not have been difficult for HTC. Then why did HTC not make the move, is it because the company thought that it was not worth it or is it because the company did not have enough resources?
Either way, we are sure that there will be many unhappy HTC consumers, and eventually it’s going to be HTC who might have to suffer.
