The much-awaited and rumored Nokia Lumia 1020 is now official. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has finally unveiled the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone with 41 megapixel PureView camera. Lumia 1020 comes with the aim to reinvent the photography on the move. In fact, the new Lumia is one of the best smartphone in the world among those already announced.
“Today I’m pleased to introduce the best camera on smartphones,” announced the CEO of Nokia, focusing precisely on the greatest element of interest to the customers. According to the manufacturer, 41 megapixel camera with PureView technology and 6 Carl Zeiss lenses ensures quality of the shots that is never seen before on such devices.
The camera also has a manual shutter, a xenon flash tube to adjust the different levels of brightness and a second generation optical image stabilization (OIS). Additionally, you can capture video of 1080p at 30fps with 4x zoom (720p at 6x zoom) with a remarkable sound quality in noisy environments, thanks to the built-in microphones. According to the company, the photographs will have a maximum resolution of 7712×5360 pixels.
In context of software, Lumia 1020 offers a new app called Nokia Pro Camera that will allow you to manually adjust the flash, focus, range ISO, white balance, shutter speed and exposure similar to professional cameras like D-SLR aimed at extending the battery life of the device, and to ensure better accuracy while capturing photographs and videos.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 includes a 4.5-inch AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display with 1280×768 pixels resolution and protected with Gorilla Glass 3, which provides excellent touch sensitivity, even when the user is wearing gloves.
The smartphone has 32GB of internal storage plus an additional 7GB cloud storage, a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor with 2GB RAM, support for LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It also sports a 1.2 megapixel front camera with f/2/4 aperture and a 2000 mAh battery that ensures 13.3 hours talk time in 3G network, and up to 5.5 hours of web browsing with Wi-Fi. The ultra-thin and compact camera cum smartphone easily fits into your pocket.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 would be made available on AT&T from July 26 for $299.99 with two years contract in the U.S. As expected, you can buy the smartphone in black, white and yellow colors. There is no information on the global availability of the device but it wouldn’t be later than third quarter of this year.
