Following some reports by consumers, it is confirmed that Samsung ATIV S handsets have started receiving the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update since Tuesday. Though it is now only available for the “Unlocked” variant of Samsung ATIV S.
The GDR2 update brings a number of new features to the Samsung ATIV S, making life much easier. Users can now keep track of their data usage with the new Data Sense — a feature that shows how much data has been consumed, and also which apps are consuming the most of your data. Besides, the OS Refresh GDR2 also enables FM Radio on Windows Phone 8 smartphones, all you have to do is plug in your headphones and you’re good to go.
Consumers in Germany have been able to install this update, but for some reason have not been able to receive Data Sense or FM Radio. If you own an unlocked Samsung ATIV S handset, we suggest you to check for the GDR2 update and download it if available.
There have also been reports saying that Microsoft is expected to release the GDR3 update before the end of the year. This new update will open up new possibilities for Windows Phone 8 smartphones as it aids support for various important hardware and features. Once the GDR3 update is out, Windows Phone 8 will run on devices with screen sizes as big as 6-inches. The update will also enable support full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels as well as quad-core processors, making Windows Phone 8 devices crisp clear and extremely powerful.
