HTC 8X users has started to receive updates to Windows Phone 8 operating system that are known as “GDR2.” The roll out started late last night, and consumers who own an ‘Unlocked’ HTC 8X can download and install the update.
It had hardly been a couple of days since Samsung rolled out the Windows Phone 8 GDR2 update for its ATIV series of smartphones, and now HTC takes the stage. The GDR2 (General Distribution Release 2) has been one of the most important updates from Microsoft that consumers have been waiting for a long time. The update addresses several bugs and brings a number of useful features to the OS.
With GDR2 installed, Windows Phone 8 consumers will be able to access radio on their devices directly from Music Hub, and will also be able to keep track of their data usage using a new feature called Data Sense. However remember that Data Sense is not available for each and every Windows Phone device; the availability of this feature depends on your location and carrier, so don’t panic if the GDR2 update doesn’t add Data Sense to your device.
Apart from these two important features, the GDR2 update also brings some useful tweaks and changes. These include Improvements to Skype, Lync, Internet Explorer and Xbox Music.
Being an HTC 8X consumer, if you have not already received the update notification, you can check for the same manually by just taping Settings > Phone Update > Check for updates. It should take about 15-30 minutes to install the update, and you won’t able to use your phone during the update installation. So have patient and wait until the process completes. Once it’s done, you would be using the latest and greatest version of Windows Phone 8.
