One of Twitter's best-known comedy accounts, Dril, says Elon Musk's Twitter is going to be a 'beautiful thing' – Yahoo Finance

Popular comedy Twitter account Dril told WaPo that the platform will be “a beautiful thing” under Elon Musk.
Dril has 1.7 million followers on Twitter and views Musk’s takeover as a “work in progress.”
Musk is a “classic comedic showman,” Dril, one of the site’s best-loved comedy accounts, told the Washington Post.
One of Twitter’s most popular comedy accounts said that Elon Musk is going to make Twitter “a beautiful thing,” in an interview with the Washington Post.
The user, who uses the handle @dril and the pseudonym Wint, has 1.7 million followers, and is known for his absurdist comedy style. Speaking to the Washington Post in a phone interview, Dril compared Twitter to Musk’s invention of the Hyperloop.
“Elon, he invented the Hyperloop,” Dril said referring to the high-speed transportation network Musk conceptualized in 2013. Hyperloop has been tested but not yet put into commercial use.
“I think Twitter will be just like that. It’s a work in progress, he’s building it from the ground up. He’s gonna make it nicer, and they’re going to use freedom of speech to cut down on bullshit in daily life. I think it’s gonna be a beautiful thing at the end of the day.”
Dril said Musk’s Twitter takeover has been entertaining calling him a “classic comedic showman,” to the Post.
“Everything he does is a comedic bit. He’s always trying to get a laugh, that’s why he makes all his cars suicidal. Just watching everything burn, it’s entertaining, that’s for sure.”
Dril started his Twitter account in 2008 and has grown to be one of the most notable users associated with the “Weird Twitter” subculture, a group of users who create ironic or bizarre posts for humorous effect. Users have said that a number of his old tweets predicted Musk’s 2022 takeover.
Dril Tweeted in 2014: “i will annihilate all spoofs of me . i will take anyone who does spoofs of me or my beloved content to the court of criminal law.”

Users said this post was similar to Musk’s post about parody accounts in 2022: “Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying ‘parody’ will be permanently suspended”

In another tweet from 2017, Dril predicted the end of Twitter in 2022: “i truly believe that i will usher in a new era of peace and prosperity when i get every single post on this fucking website deleted by 2022.”
When asked whether he’d make the switch from Twitter to other platforms like Mastodon, TikTok or Substack, Dril told the Post that he isn’t keen.
“I’d like to know what these apps are, because none of the apps I’ve used are good,” he said. “They ask you for pictures of your son, your father. They’re unusable basically. They have Russian pop-up ads and malware. I’m not planning on leaving Twitter anytime soon.”
But Dril said he would never pay $8 for a Twitter checkmark and if the platform dies he’s okay with it because “it’ll be like a cleansing fire.”
“It’ll burn down the house that I grew up in, and, with it, all the memories will be gone. I can start from a clean slate, tabula rasa. From there, I can try again and hopefully make an account that’s actually good.”

Airbnb Inc. is in the spotlight. On Sept. 5, New York City implemented what Airbnb calls a "de facto ban" on the short-term rental platform. The number of short-term listings on Airbnb in New York City, one of the platform's top markets, has seen a significant decline. And according to "Rich Dad Poor Dad" author Robert Kiyosaki, a major shift in the real estate landscape is on the horizon. "Airbnb to lead real estate market crash," he said in a recent post on X, formerly Twitter. While a crash i
It’s been a good year so far for Cathie Wood. Representing a meaningful turnaround after what can be described as a two-year post-pandemic comedown, her flagship ARKK Innovation fund (ARKK) is up by 46% year-to-date, putting the main indexes’ performances in the shade. That said, given Wood’s penchant for the risky and outré, not all the stocks that make up the various funds under the Ark Invest banner are doing well right now. Some have underperformed recently and look a bit rough around the ed
With the third quarter winding down, and the final quarter of the year almost upon us, it’s time to take stock of stock markets. Where are we likely to go in the next few months, and what are the likely forces to impact trading? In some recent comments on CNBC, Citi strategist Scott Chronert lays out his own belief that we’re likely to see some further gains. Chronert first points out that fears of a hard recession have faded, or as he puts it, “We’ve been pricing in a soft landing since the fir

Falling oil inventories put America's energy security at risk, potentially making the country more vulnerable to supply disruptions and price volatility in the global market.
Real estate stands as a cornerstone of wealth generation, and as 19th-century British philosopher and economist John Stuart Mill once, said, "Landlords grow rich in their sleep." Landlords don't merely collect rental income; they also reap the rewards of property value appreciation. While it's nice to collect monthly rental income from an investment property, being a landlord does come with hassles. Don’t miss: Investing in real estate just got a whole lot simpler. With as little as $100, averag

Researchers at the Federal Reserve have issued warnings in recent weeks about possible disruptions in U.S. Treasuries due to the return of a popular hedge fund trading strategy that exacerbated a crash in the world's biggest bond market in 2020. Hedge funds' short positions in some Treasuries futures – contracts for the purchase and sale of bonds for future delivery – have recently hit record highs as part of so-called basis trades, which take advantage of the premium of futures contracts over the price of the underlying bonds, analysts have said. The trades – typically the domain of macro hedge funds with relative value strategies – consist of selling a futures contract, buying Treasuries deliverable into that contract with repurchase agreement (repo) funding, and delivering them at contract expiry.

There’s no doubt that the post-pandemic macro landscape has been treacherous to navigate on many levels. From the global supply disruptions that followed the reopening to the soaring inflation and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, nothing has remained static, and uncertainty has been the only constant.
