Microsoft has confirmed that the award-winning Gris is coming to Xbox Game Pass on September 5. Most of the time, Microsoft keeps its Xbox Game Pass reveals focused on one month at a time. However, there are times when Microsoft breaks from that pattern to announce a new Xbox Game Pass game a little farther in advance.
This is exactly what Microsoft did with one of the new Xbox Game Pass games for August 2023. When announcing the games coming to Xbox Game Pass in the second half of July, Microsoft also confirmed that award-winning indie game Celeste would be joining the lineup on August 1. Now Microsoft has done something similar with another award-winning indie game by confirming Gris for Xbox Game Pass on September 5.
It's unclear exactly why Microsoft decided to announce Gris for Xbox Game Pass in its post revealing the new Xbox Game Pass games for the second half of August 2023, but now fans can mark their calendars accordingly. For those unfamiliar with the game, Gris was one of the highest-rated new game releases of 2018. A platform-adventure game with a compelling narrative, Gris didn't come to Xbox consoles until a whopping four years after its initial launch on other platforms. Now Xbox gamers that neglected to pick it up can try the game through Xbox Game Pass and see if it lives up to the hype. When Gris joins Xbox Game Pass on September 5, it will be available across the cloud, Xbox consoles, and PC.
Gris should make a great addition to the Xbox Game Pass lineup in September, but it's only the tip of the iceberg. September 2023 is going to be an especially stacked month for Xbox Game Pass, as Starfield is scheduled to join the subscription service on September 6, just one day after Gris. Starfield is easily one of the most-hyped video games in years, and one of the biggest Xbox console exclusives in quite some time. There's definitely a lot riding on Starfield, but while it's stumbled here and there, Bethesda typically delivers on expectations.
Starfield and Gris would make September 2023 a month to remember for Xbox Game Pass by themselves, but there's even more for subscribers to look forward to next month. Bloodborne-like day one game Lies of P is joining Xbox Game Pass on September 19, while party game Party Animals is coming on September 20. Payday 3 is joining Xbox Game Pass on September 21, and finally, Cocoon is coming on September 29.
