Facebook has achieved another millstone, and announced that its Facebook for Every Phone app has more than 100 million monthly active users all around the world. The app has been aimed to provide a way to access the social network for low and mid-segment smartphone consumers.
In today’s world, the technology market is filled with high-end smartphones and tablets, and there is very little attention given to low segment smartphone consumers. However, Facebook knows and understands the potential market made up of low segment consumers and wants to cater this large user base. This is the reason why the company came up with Facebook for Every Phone app, and released it on July 12, 2011.
Ran Makavy, Growth Manager at Facebook said via Newsroom that Facebook for Every Phone app offers a fast and comprehensive Facebook experience on “more than 3,000 different phones from almost every handset manufacturer that exists today.” The app not only includes Facebook’s most popular features, such as News Feed, Inbox, and Photos, but also enables users to upload photos and find friends from your phone’s contacts.
Since the advent of the app, it just took two years for the user base to go up from zero to 100 million. Most importantly, the app has become a hit in countries like India, Indonesia and the Philippines where buying a high-end smartphone is not possible for every mobile consumer. In addition, Facebook for Every Phone app uses much lesser data compared to other mobile apps, and Facebook has also partnered with a number of mobile operators around the world in order to offer free or discounted data access to its network.
