Nicole Kidman's Upcoming Movies and TV Shows to Watch Out for – MovieWeb

Nicole Kidman is always working on new projects. Here are some upcoming movies and shows to get excited about.
Over her 40-year career, Nicole Kidman has proven herself to be one of our greatest working actors. With an Oscar win (and four nominations) under her belt, it’s no secret that she is well-celebrated and beloved by many. She has worked with directors such as Park Chan-wook, Yorgos Lanthimos, Lars Von Trier, and Sofia Coppola to name a handful. Her work is unrestricted by genre or medium, ranging from family movies such as Paddington to the Viking Odyssey The Northman and on to crowd-pleasing television like Big Little Lies.
In 2003, Kidman began working behind the scenes as a producer as well as acting, both on projects she stars in as well as solely working in a producer capacity. The first of these was In the Cut, directed by Jane Campion. However, it wasn’t until 2010 that she officially set up her production company, Blossom Films, and from then on, Kidman’s roles as a producer increased in volume. She now produces the majority of projects that she stars in, along with others including the HBO series Love & Death.
Nicole Kidman is not someone who ever seems to slow down, so she has plenty of projects coming up to look forward to — take a look.
A Family Affair is a romantic comedy directed by Richard La Gravense (P.S. I Love You) and written by Carrie Solomon. It stars Joey King as Zara, Zac Efron as Chris, and Nicole Kidman as Zara’s mother. To begin with, Zara is working as an assistant to Chris, a movie star, until Chris falls in love with her mother. With charismatic stars and an entertaining premise, there’s no doubt the movie will be a winner. It comes to Netflix on November 17, 2023.
The latest installment in DC’s Aquaman series, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom finds the original cast reprising their roles. It stars Jason Momoa in the main role as Aquaman with Kidman as Atlanna and Amber Heard as Mera, along with Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne. This movie finds Aquaman protecting Atlantis from an evil ancient power that threatens his home. James Wan, known for Saw and Insidious, also returns as director. The release date is set for December 20, 2023, and the movie will open in theaters.
Expats is an upcoming TV series created by Lulu Wang, director of the stunning The Farewell. The show is based on a novel by Janice Y.K. Lee titled The Expatriates, and follows the lives of a close group of friends living in Hong Kong. Aside from Kidman, some of its stars include Sarayu Blue, Jack Huston, and Brian Tee. It is set to be released on Prime Video, though there is currently no decided release date.
From realism and drama to an animated adventure comedy movie, this upcoming project for Kidman is Spellbound. This Apple TV+ original movie is directed by Vicky Jenson and stars Rachel Zegler as Princess Ellian, Nicole Kidman as Ellsmere, and Javier Bardem as Solon. Princess Ellian is our protagonist here, and we find her reaching the age that her magical powers are coming into effect. She must use her newfound powers to defend her family and kingdom from darkness. Spellbound will hopefully come to Apple TV+ later in 2023.
The thriller, Holland, Michigan, featured on 2013’s blacklist — a list of most loved screenplays that have yet to be made — and is finally coming to our screens. The plot follows a woman who starts having an affair after deciding her husband was cheating on her. Soon, however, she discovers her husband’s real, much darker, secret. Its cast is packed with exciting stars such as Matthew Macfadyen, Gael García Bernal, and the up-and-coming Rachel Sennott. Though it doesn’t yet have a release date, we hope it’ll arrive at its home on Prime Video as soon as possible.
The upcoming TV series, Kay Scarpetta, is based on a series of novels by Patricia Cornwall. There is currently not much information available about the show’s plot but the character Scarpetta is a medical examiner who uses forensic technology to aid criminal investigations. Kidman will play Scarpetta and Jamie Lee Curtis will star alongside her as Dorothy. Interestingly, the horror production company Blumhouse is involved here, so it can be assumed that the series will have at the very least a horror inflection. Once again, this series will arrive at Prime Video at a yet-to-be-determined time.
The Perfect Couple begins with an ill-fated wedding that is disrupted when a body is found in the nearby harbor just before the ceremony, leaving all the guests as suspects. The premise may sound like typical miniseries fodder, but the cast is surprisingly interesting. Kidman is joined by Elle Fanning, Liev Schreiber, and Meghann Fahy, who was brilliant in the second season of The White Lotus. In smaller roles, we have Omar Epps and cult favorite Isabelle Adjani. The show will be aired on Netflix, but we are yet to receive a release date.

Faraway Downs is a reimagining of Baz Luhrmann's Australia, and finds him reuniting with Kidman and Hugh Jackman who are reprising their original roles. Kidman plays Sarah, a recent widow who owns a cattle ranch in Australia. When a baron seeks to take the land from her, she works with Jackman’s character, a cattle driver, to protect her land. The miniseries is still in production, so it may be a while before it hits our screens, but when it does, it’ll be released on Disney+ and Hulu.

Created by Taylor Sheridan and Jill Wagner, Special Ops: Lioness follows a marine tasked with the challenge of befriending the daughter of a terrorist that the CIA is targeting. Its stars are Sam Ashgari, Carla Mansour, and Zoe Saldaña to name a few. Kidman is largely involved in a producer capacity, but she also has a small role as Kaitlyn Meade. The show is part of programming from Paramount+ and is expected to be released in 2023.
