A shortlist of key Xperia 5 V specs has turned-up via a frequent but sometimes unreliable source on these Sony smartphone matters. According to the specs, which can be seen in the machine translated image below, the Sony Xperia 5 V will be powered by Qualcomm’s SM8550 platform, better known to consumers as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. As models of the Xperia 5 line are basically cut-down variants of the larger Xperia 1 range, it should be expected that the 2023 Xperia 5 would match the Sony Xperia 1 V in terms of main specifications. It’s reasonable to speculate that this Mark Five model of the Xperia 5 series could be released around October time.
So, along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, there’s also a camera upgrade apparently coming to the Xperia 5 V, with the phone sporting a 12 MP f2.2 16 mm, 48 MP f1.9 24 mm, 12 MP f2.4 60 mm setup. This brings the wide camera up from the 12 MP variant found in the Xperia 5 IV to possibly the 48 MP Sony Exmor T unit found in this year’s Xperia 1 V. As for other boosts over the 2022 Xperia 5, the incoming 2023 model will purportedly feature either 8 GB or 12 GB of RAM, the latter being an amount that has seemingly been leaked earlier in Geekbench records. Storage remains the same at 128 GB and 256 GB while the battery capacity is also unchanged from the Xperia 5 IV at 5,000 mAh.
For those who want to pick over Sony’s definition of a compact smartphone, this particular post states a 6.1 FHD panel will be along for the Xperia 5 V ride. As pointed out by SumahoDigest, display expert Ross Young previously claimed that the “next Sony Xperia compact” would have a measurement of 6.05 inches, which would make it slightly more compact than the predecessor. However, it is possible either this fresh leak has the figure rounded up or, of course, is fake. But the post does start with the disclaimer “nothing particularly exciting”, helping make it believable and certainly accurate in regard to the typical spec differences between Xperia 5 generations.
