Microsoft has updated Skype (ver. 2.9) for Windows Phone 8, which brings two main features: Filter for contacts and change in the layout of the home screen.
Microsoft is improving its VoIP service Skype continuously, and updating Skype client app for all supported operating systems. This time the company has updated Skype (ver. 2.9) for Windows Phone 8.
Skype 2.9 brings two main features: Filter for contacts and change in the layout of the home screen. The frequent releases confirm the company’s plans to invest more time and resources in the development of mobile applications.
The new Skype 2.9 for Windows Phone 8 is the outcome of the suggestions made by the users. In fact, the app now allows to send feedback directly. One of the features implemented in the new version for Microsoft’s mobile platform is the filter for the contacts. Now users can view all contacts, only Skype contacts (excluding Windows Phone contacts) and online contacts only. In practice, it is a feature similar to that available in the desktop application.
The second major change concerns the design of the interface. The home screen now has a fresh look and feel that gives and makes easy to swipe between sections Recent, Favorites, and Contacts. Users will also notice a slight restyling of the Favorites section. The size of contact tile has also reduced, so users will see three tiles in a row instead of two. Moreover, this release also includes some bugs and speed improvements while the app still missing video message feature, which is already available on other platforms.
However, a spokesman from the Redmond software house has pointed out that Skype for Windows Phone may receive updates that bring video messages soon. Till then, we just have to wait for version 3.0.
