The Worldwide Developer’s Conference 2023 is rumored to be the biggest Apple event in history. It is touted to be the event where Apple will unleash its first-gen VR/AR headset. But that’s not all that the event has in store, though. In addition to that, Apple will also roll the curtains on iOS 17.
That said, Apple is not expected to introduce many new features with iOS 17. But the ones that Apple will showcase will be pretty huge. For example, according to recent reports, Apple will put the elements in place to enable sideloading apps on iPhones. And no matter what the other features are, that will surely be a highlight.
Every year, the June WWDC event brings annual updates to the main operating systems of Apple. Among them, the changes made in iOS are the most watched. But this time, the changes Apple will bring in iOS 17 will lean more towards regulatory compliance instead of introducing a lot of new features.
The report comes from Mark Gurman, who confirmed that Apple would introduce iOS 17 with macOS 14, iPadOS 17, and significant watchOS 10 updates. According to Mark, the iPadOS and iOS are not likely to get major new features. Instead, they will bring minor improvements that will checklist user requests.
Moreover, Gurman says that Apple will make more noise beyond WWDC by working on an iOS overhaul. And as you can guess, the overhaul would enable sideloading.
Apple previously reported that it was preparing itself for the European Union law changes. The report was from December, and it was for the Digital Markets Act that will come into action in 2024. This act is basically forcing Apple to allow third-party app stores to exist. And with iOS 17, Apple is getting ready to comply.
