Microsoft is also expected to launch an 8-inch Surface Mini tablet running Windows RT 8.1, which will take on Apple’s iPad Mini.
In addition to the new Surface 2 coming September 23rd, Microsoft is also expected to bring Surface Mini, which is an 8-inch tablet, designed to challenge the iPad Mini on the market.
Surface Mini measures identically to Apple iPad Mini, running Windows RT 8.1 operating system and may debut in stores later this year.
According to Paul Thurrott of WinSupersite.com, Surface Mini Surface is likely to arrive by December, which would have a Qualcomm processor optimized for a longer battery life and improved performance compared to the first-generation of Surface RT, and will be running Windows RT 8.1, optimized for devices with smaller panels.
Microsoft hasn’t officially confirmed the arrival of Surface Mini next to the Surface 2, but CEO Steve Ballmer had already hinted the group’s intention to expand its Surface tablet family with multiple units. More specific details will arrive on September 23, when Microsoft will announce the second-generation of Surface tablets in New York City.
In addition to the new Surface tablets, Nokia’s Windows RT tablet is also in the pipeline, which may arrive on September 26. Besides, other OEM partners are also preparing to announce the following Windows 8 based tablets later this year: Acer W3-810, ASUS Transformer Book Trio T100TA, Dell Venue, an unknown tablet from Dell, Lenovo Miix 8, Lenovo Miix 2, and Toshiba Encore.
