This unexpected move has sparked conversations about design convergence and the potential resurgence of physical buttons in the smartphone world.
Announced in China on October 24, 2024, the Oppo Find X8 Pro boasts a suite of high-end features, including a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor, a stunning 6.78-inch display, and a Hasselblad-branded camera system with four 50MP lenses. But it’s the “Quick Capture” button that has really caught people’s attention. This physical button, located on the phone’s side, offers functionalities similar to the iPhone 16’s camera button: a single press launches the camera app, a double press acts as a shutter, and a swipe controls zoom.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Android phone makers borrow design elements from Apple. Remember the notch? However, the speed at which Oppo has adopted this particular feature is notable, especially considering the industry’s recent shift towards minimizing physical buttons.
So, why is Oppo bringing back the button? Perhaps it’s a nod to user feedback, with some finding dedicated buttons more intuitive and tactile than on-screen controls. Or maybe it’s a strategic move to differentiate the Find X8 Pro in a crowded market. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that Oppo is willing to experiment with design to enhance user experience.

A Closer Look at the “Quick Capture” Button
- Functionality: The button offers quick access to the camera app, acts as a shutter button for photos and videos, and allows for zoom control with a simple swipe.
- Placement: Located on the phone’s side, similar to the iPhone 16’s camera button.
- Potential Benefits: Offers a more tactile and intuitive camera experience, especially for one-handed use or underwater photography (as touted by Oppo).
More Than Just a Button: The Find X8 Pro’s Camera Prowess
While the camera button is a standout feature, it’s important to remember that the Find X8 Pro is a camera powerhouse in its own right. The Hasselblad-branded camera system includes:

My Thoughts
Personally, I’m intrigued by Oppo’s decision to incorporate a dedicated camera button. As someone who often fumbles with on-screen controls, especially when trying to capture a quick shot, I can appreciate the convenience and tactile feedback a physical button provides. I’m also curious to see if other Android manufacturers follow suit.
