Apple isn’t yet done this year as it prepares for another significant event on October 22nd to unveil the second-gen of iPad Mini and the iPad 5. The location of the big iPad day remains to be a secret, but previous events of the California-based company were held at the California Theater and its headquarters in Cupertino.
Earlier rumor mill suggested that Apple could launch successors to its tablets at an event on October 15th, but things seem to have changed now.
The invitation-only event was scooped by the technology website AllThingsD when its staff heard from sources knowledgeable of the said Apple launch. The sources are also hinting of a Mac Pro, the OS X Mavericks, and most likely new iPod as well. Media outfits haven’t received invitations yet, but Apple usually sends out invites a week prior to a big event, so tech enthusiasts can expect to hear more about the Apple event next Tuesday. If the launch-sell pattern continues, most likely the new iPads will be available for pre-order by October 25th.
Apple iPad Mini 2 with Retina Display
Consumers looked for better screen resolution with the iPad Mini. According to rumors, Apple might throw in a Retina Display to the equation. The screens will be sourced by the iPad manufacturer from companies such as Sharp, LG, and Samsung.
The iPad Mini 2 is also expected to use an A7x 64-bit processor similar to that used for the iPhone 5S. It might also mirror the gold plating finish and even sport a fingerprint scanner. There are also speculations that the 7.9-inch tablet may have colorful back panels just as the iPhone 5C.
Apple iPad 5
It has been almost a year since Apple rolled out the iPad 4. Since the launch of the first generation iPad, consumers haven’t waited more than 12 months to see a new version of the tablet. The newest version of the 9.7-inch tablet with Retina display will be thinner, and sport other redesigned external elements. Experts say that the fifth generation iPad will look like a bigger version of the iPad Mini based on earlier image and specs leaks.
Some estimates say that the iPad 5 might measure 2mm thinner and 1mm shorter than the latest version of the device. The width might be reduced by 16mm because of the redesigned side bezels.
The iPad 5 will most likely be equipped with an A7x chip from Samsung, a more potent RAM, and an 8MP rear camera. There is also a loud buzz for a fingerprint sensor and a smaller home button.
The date of the Apple event coincides with the Innovation Reinvented of Nokia and the Surface 2 launch of Microsoft. October 22nd will definitely be a busy day for the technology world.
