Fresh from the rumor mills, Samsung is reportedly working on a Gear Glass and it aims to beat Google by releasing the product April or May of next year.
Google Glass might have its competition soon in the form of Gear Glass by Samsung. A rumor had sparked by a tweet over the weekend from Russian blogger Eldar Murtazin. The tipster also said that the wearable technology might be out as early as April or May 2014.
The move of Samsung might just be a gimmick to be the first with a real consumer product as Google Glass struggles at its infancy. The South Korean tech manufacturer just recently rolled out the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, which according to industry analysts is a flop. Google, on the other hand, is aiming to release the Glass around mid-2014.
Reports don’t give a hint of any pricing, features, or design, but it might be safe to speculate that the Gear Glass can easily work with the company’s line of smartphones and other Android devices just how Galaxy Gear operates.

With the Gear Glass name to be used, there are speculations that it will add some challenge to the legal battles faced by Samsung.
Technology website CNET reports that Samsung might be working with Google, explaining the “Glass” on the product name. The collaboration can be similar to how the Galaxy S4 had its Google Play version. The report noted that Samsung prides itself in branding its own products and won’t just rip off a product by another company. If the speculations will hold water, the Google Glass might come out with a Samsung branding and perhaps packaged with a partner smartphone or smartwatch.
In case, the rumors about the tie-up between Samsung and Google are false, and the former wants to avoid more legal battles, then Gear Glass might just be a code name or it could be the product name that adds more hours in the courtroom tussles.
